1974 Stanley Cup Finals
5/7/74 - Game 1 @ Boston
Philadelphia came out hot and grabbed a 3-1 lead in the first. Simon Nolet scored two of the goals. Boston found their legs in the second period and rattled of three straight goals, all within two and a half minutes. Ken Hodge, Gregg Sheppard and Don Marcotte lighting the lamp. Well, that riled up the Flyers. A full fledged donnybrook ensued. That was just what the Flyers ordered. They score the next four goals and win game one 7-4. Nolet had a hat trick. Rick MacLeish had 5 points. 5/9/74 - Game 2 @ Boston Hodge scored 31 seconds into the game to put Boston up 1-0. That would be their only goal of the game. The Flyers would score the next three for a 3-1 win and a 2-0 series lead heading home. 5/12/74 - Game 3 @ Philadelphia Hodge's OT goal gives the Bruins a 3-2 win in a game they had to have. Bobby Orr started the scoring but Bill Barber and Terry Crisp put Philly up 2-1. Before the first period ended John Bucyk tied the game. There were no more goals until Hodge's winner. 5/14/74 - Game 4 @ Philadelphia Ross Lonsberry scored twice helping Philly build a 3-0 lead. Dave Forbes notched a short handed goal for Boston in the third, but that would be it. They Flyers win 3-1 and are one win away from the cup. 5/16/74 - Game 5 @ Boston All the goals in the game came in the first period. Terry O'Reilly, Nolet and Bucyk. Boston hangs on for the next 40 minutes and stays alive at home with a 2-1 win. 5/19/74 - Game 6 @ Philadelphia Cashman and Orr gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the first. After a scoreless 2nd, Bill Flett got the Flyers on the board and then Barber tied the game. We head to OT and after one scoreless session, Ken Hodge scores the winner for Boston forcing a winner take all game 7. 5/21/74 - Game 7 @ Boston After a scoreless first Dave Schultz gave Philly a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later Phil Esposito tied it. Orest Kindrachuk put the Flyers back on top and then Wayne Cashman tied it. With less than two minutes to play in the 2nd Barber scored and Philly led 3-2 after two. A little more than five minutes into the third Esposito tied the game. The game remained tied after 60 minutes and again we go to OT. This time, next goal wins the cup. It took less than five minutes for the winner to happen. Bill Barber beat Gilles Gilbert with a slapshot assisted by Joe Watson and Bobby Clarke. Philadelphia wins the 1974 Stanley Cup. |
