1975 Season
1975 - Philadelphia Phillies World Champions.
My 1975 replay was great fun. There were great pennant races in three of the four divisions. Boston edged out Baltimore by 1.5 games for the AL East Crown. Kansas City was 2 games better than Oakland to win the AL West. Over in the National League Philadelphia won the east by 3.5 games over Pittsburgh. Cincinnati was the lone runaway, as the Big Red Machine won the West by 19 games over Los Angeles.
The post season action was extremely tight and thrilling. Each league championship went the full five games and the World Series went six games. The ALCS between Kansas City and Boston had a one run game and an extra inning game. In the NLCS between Philadelphia and Cincinnati three of the games were decided by one run and a fourth was an extra inning affair. In the World Series, four of the six games were one run games. You can't get much more exciting than that!
The AL MVP was Fred Lynn (.340-23-136). AL Cy Young winner was Frank Tanana (20-9, 2.63, 266 K). NL MVP was Joe Morgan (.322-20-118, 140 R, 65 SB). NL Cy Young winner was Andy Messersmith (25-11, 2.20, 202 K, 40 GS).
Here is how the replay compared to real life in some basic categories:
The AL had a .267 AVG (.258 Real), .333 OBP (.328 Real), .392 SLG (.379 Real), .725 OPS (.707 Real), 8976 Runs (8281 Real), 1576 HR (1465 Real), 4.14 ERA (3.78 Real), .976 FLD (.975 Real)
The NL had a .258 AVG (.257 Real), .324 OBP (.327 Real), .367 SLG (.369 Real), .691 OPS (.696 Real), 8151 Runs (8014 Real), 1181 HR (1233 Real), 3.64 ERA (3.62 Real), .975 FLD (.976 Real)
