1978 Season
1978 - Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Champions
When I decided to replay the 1978 season, the main reason was it was the closest to 1979 that was released for the PC to play. Of course while completing 1978, REPLAY released 1979. I immediately purchased that season and it may be the next project I do. Anyway, back to 1978. I remember 1978 very well. It was the summer that my family moved from Detroit to Redford. The big draw to '78 is the miracle comeback the Yankees had and the one game playoff they had with Boston. (Bucky bleeping Dent) Things didn't go so well for the Yanks in my replay as they finished a distant fifth place, 22 games behind surprise AL East winner Milwaukee. The Royals easily won the AL West as did the Dodgers win the NL West. I did manage to guide the Pirates to a first place finish the NL East over Montreal. I managed the Tigers to a 6th place finish, but got my first action in with rookies Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker.
The A.L. MVP was Jim Rice (.325-40-145). A.L. Cy Young winner was Ron Guidry (22-9, 2.23, 277K). N.L. MVP was Dave Parker (.351-26-116). N.L. Cy Young winner was Ed Halicki (21-6, 2.08).
Here is how the replay compared to real life in some basic categories:
