Reggie Willits pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the 10th with two outs, gave the Angels a walk off win in the series opener 4-3. The Angels had a 3-1 lead in the 4th thanks to a two run double by Chone Figgins and an RBI single by Orlando Cabrera. The Yankees tied the game in the 5th inning. Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera led off the inning with back to back singles off of Angel's starter John Lackey. Andy Phillips flew out, but Bubba Crosby knocked them both in with a triple. The score remained tied into the 10th setting up Willits heroics off of Yankee reliever Ron Villone. Cabrera and Vlad Guerrero each had three hits for L.A. Crosby had three hits for New York. Scott Shields gets the win, Villone the loss.

Game two brings out the offenses for both teams as the Yankees rally in the 9th inning to tie the game and then win it in the 11th inning. The Angels had built a 7-2 lead after five innings chasing Yankees starter Mike Mussina from the game. Jose Molina hit a three run homer in the 2nd inning and Garrett Anderson and Vlad Guerrero hit back to back solo homers in the 3rd. Alex Rodriguez hit a two run homer off of Angels starter Ervin Santana in the 4th to make it 5-2. Juan Rivera got those two runs back in the 5th for Los Angeles with a two run homer. In the 9th the Yankees rallied against the Angels bullpen. With Hector Carrasco on the mound and one out, Hideki Matsui walked, took second on a wild pitch and went to third on Johnny Damon's single. Brendan Donnelly was called on to face Derek Jeter and Donnelly struck him out. Now just one out away from a 2-0 series lead, Jason Giambi hit a three run homer to tie the game. In the 11th, Francisco Rodriguez was on the mound for L.A. After two quick outs to start the inning, Jeter walked, Giambi was hit by a pitch and then Alex Rodriguez delivered a three run homer to put New York on top 10-7. Mike Myers closed out the Angels and the series heads to New York all even.

The Angels built up an 11-5 lead off of Yankee starter Randy Johnson and then held on for a 12-10 win and the series lead. Johnson only last four innings giving up seven runs. He was followed by Aaron Small who gave up four in just two innings. In the 8th inning with the Angels up 12-5, Jason Giambi hit a two run homer off of Kelvin Escobar to make it 12-7. In the 9th, with two outs, Derek Jeter hit a three run homer off of Chris Bootcheck to make it 12-10. Jason Giambi then doubled and New York had the tying run at the plate with Alex Rodriguez. Scot Shields came out of the bullpen and got Rodriguez to ground out ending the game. Jeter had four hits and six RBIs. Maicer Izturis had three hits and five RBIs for Los Angeles. Garrett Anderson also had three hits. Kelvin Escobar gets the win, Johnson the loss.

This was unbelievable. The Yankees were leading a close game 4-0 going into the 8th inning. They then proceeded to score 13 runs to blow away the Angels.They sent 17 men to the plate and hit three home runs. Jason Giambi hit a two run homer off of J.C. Romero. Andy Phillips hit a grand slam off of Scot Shields and Robinson Cano hit a three run homer off of Chris Bootcheck. Jaret Wright gets the win, Jered Weaver the loss. Philips had six RBIs, Canno had four RBIs and three hits. Alex Rodriguez had three.

The Yankees offense continues to pound the Angels pitching staff as they jump on John Lackey for six runs in 4.1 innings, building a 7-0 lead and coasting to an easy victory. Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi hit back to back solo homers in the first inning. Andy Phillips made it 3-0 New York in the 2nd inning on a sac fly. In the 5th, Alex Rodriguez hit a three run homer that chased Lackey from the game. Chien-Ming Wang gets the win. Melky Cabrera had four hits and two RBIs. Rodriguez, Jeter and Robinson Cano all had three hits.

Los Angeles must feel like they brought a pop gun to try and beat a bazooka. For the fifth straight game the Yankees score double digits and simply over whelm the Angels to take the series 4-2 and move on to the World Series. Mike Mussina held the Angels in check while Los Angeles starter Ervin Santana didn't last five innings. The Yankees made the score so lopsided with a big seven run 9th inning that snuffed out an hope the Angels had. The Yankees led 8-2 going into the 9th inning. Chris Bootcheck was on the mound and he gave up back to back to back solo homers to Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada. Derek Jeter would later hit a bases loaded triple and the series was over. Jeter had five RBIs, Posada had four RBIs. Giambi, Rodriguez and Robinson Cano all had three hits.

Alex Rodriguez was named the MVP of the 2006 ALCS. Alex led the Yankees in hits (13), doubles (3), RBIs (13) and hit four home runs. He had a .464 batting average in the six game series.
