The Brewers stun the Royals with three runs in the bottom of the 9th to rally from 4-1 down and win 5-4. Don Money's two run homer in the first put the Brewers up early. But the Royals scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 8th to build up a 4-2 lead. Royals starter Denis Leonard started the 9th by walking Larry Hisle. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Sixto Lezcano's single. Oglivie then delivered a pinch hit double to score Sixto and tie the game at 4-4. Robin Yount bunted Oglivie over to third and Gorman Thomas was issued an intentional walk. Buck Martinez then came through with a base hit to win the game for the Brewers. Sorensen went all the way for the win. Leonard the loss.

Milwaukee leads series 2-0
Buck Martinez does it again for the Brewers. His run scoring sac fly in the bottom of the 12th gives Milwaukee another walk off win, and a 2-0 series lead. The 12th inning set up almost exactly like the end of game one. Lezcano doubled. Yount bunted him to third. Thomas was walked and then Martinez hit the fly ball that scored Sixto. Royals starter Paul Splitorff went 10.1 innings allowing just five hits. Brewers starter Mike Caldwell went 11.2 innings. Bill Castro gets the win. Al Hrabosky takes the loss.

Another tight one run game this time KC finally comes out on top as they hold on for a 3-2 win and avoid a series sweep. Each team scored twice in the 5th, but KC added a run in the 6th on an RBI single by Cowens. Steve Busby made it hold up pitching 3.1 innings of relief. He gets the win. Jerry Augustine gets the loss.
Game 4 October 7, 1978 @ Royals Stadium, Kansas City

Series tied 2-2
Don't be fooled by the final score, game four was a tight one too. However, KC pushed across four runs in their 8th inning to break open what was a 2-1 game. Milwaukee got run in the 9th to make the final score 6-2. Yount's RBI double put the Brewers up 1-0 in the 2nd. A solo homer by Otis in the third tied it and a sac fly by Cowens after Porter tripled, put KC in front. In the 8th, Porter singled in a run chasing starter Travers. Patek later singled in two and White singled in another to give the Royals some much needed breathing room. Money hit a solo homer in the 9th for Milwaukee. Gura gets the win, Busby the save. Travers the loss. The series heads back to Milwaukee for a deciding fifth game.

Kansas City wins series 3-2
Dennis Leonard pitched a complete game, four hit shutout and the Royals rally from a 2-0 series deficit to eliminate Milwaukee with a 9-0 whitewashing and head to the World Series. An RBI single by Brett in the first and an RBI double by Cowens in the 3rd made it 2-0 KC. The Royals padded their lead in the 6th via a two run triple by Hurdle and an RBI single by McRae, upping the lead to 5-0. Cowend doubled in a run in the 7th and then in the 9th Porter doubled in a run and White doubled in two more, ending any Brewer fans hope of a 9th inning comeback.

Amos Otis was named the MVP of the 1978 ALCS. Amos led the Royals in hits (9), doubles (3), and hit one home run. He had a .391 batting average in the five game series.
