In a game that had eight home runs, it was the Tigers that survived with a one run extra inning win. The Rangers led 9-3 after seven innings. Alex Avila hit a grand slam in the 8th to make it 9-7. Miguel Cabrera then hit a two out, two run homer in the 9th off of Neftali Perez to tie the game. It stayed tied until Danny Worth's two run double in the top of the 13th. The Rangers got one in the bottom of the 13th, but Jose Valverde closed the Rangers out.

Again the Rangers jumped out to a lead only to see it disappear. It was 4-1 Texas after three innings. In the fourth Jhonny Peralta and Ryan Raburn each hit two run homers to put Detroit up 5-4. Victor Martinez doubled in two in the 7th and Avila followed that with an RBI single to make it 8-4. RBI singles by Endy Chavez and Josh Hamilton made it an 8-6 game. Ramon Santiago doubled in an insurance run in the 9th and the Tigers won 9-7. They head home up 2-0.

After a lot of fireworks in Arlington, pitching took over in a must win game for the Rangers. Hamilton singled in a run in the first inning and Adrian Beltre doubled in a run in the second to account for all the Rangers offense. C.J. Wilson dominated with 8 innings of shutout ball. The Tigers rallied in the 9th off of Feliz. With one out Avilla and Carlos Guillen singled. Elvis Andrus booted Andy Dirks grounder and it was now 2-1. With one out and men on the corners, Don Kelly pinch hit for Austin Jackson. He grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
Game 4 October 16, 2011 @ Comerica Park, Detroit

Series tied 2-2
This time it was the Tigers that jumped to the early lead only to see Texas coming storming back. Detroit led 6-1 after five innings as Rick Porcello was pitching a solid game. In the 6th, with two out Nelson Cruz hit a two run homer to make it 6-3. Then in the 7th the wheels fell off for Detroit. Torealba led off with a double. Porcello was lifted for Alburquerque. He got two outs but also walked three and gave up a single and a double. Joaquin Benoit came on with the bases loaded and two outs. He then gave up a grand slam to Mike Napoli. Final score from Detroit 10-6 Rangers and the series is tied.
Game 5 October 17, 2011 @ Comerica Park, Detroit

Texas leads series 3-2
The Tigers have come home and lost two in a row, but had Verlander going in game five to get control back in the series. That didn't work out so well. Raburn's solo homer put Detroit up 1-0 after one. In the 3rd, Hamilton hit a three run homer and Beltre followed that with a solo homer, back to back homers make it 4-1 Texas. Cabrera hit a two run homer in the 4th to make it 4-3. In the 5th Texas got those runs back on an RBI triple by Andrus and sac fly by Hamilton. Texas wins 6-4 and heads home having won three in a row and are one game from going to the World Series.

Texas wins series 4-2
The Tigers scored one in the first on a sac fly by Boesch. In the bottom of the 2nd Napoli tied the game with a solo homer. Tiger starter Max Scherzer then struggled in the third. Kinsler tripled, Andrus singled him in. Hamilton and Young followed with singles for anothe run. Moreland later singled in a run and it was 4-1 Texas after three. Murphy hit a solo homer leading off the bottom of the 4th and it was 5-1. The Rangers had little resistance from there on out. They win 7-2 and advance to the World Series. Rallying from being down 0-2.

Adrian Beltre was named the MVP of the 2011 ALCS. Adrian had 11 hits, five of which were home runs. He knocked in 9 runs and had a .423 average in the six games.
